TRAVELLING 

Maribor is on a great location in the northeast of Slovenia. Close to Austria, close to the capital of Slovenia (Ljubljana), close to Croatia and close to Hungary. There are several travelling options available to arrive to Maribor.

BY PLANE

The nearest international airport is Maribor Airport, but currently there are no regular international lines available.

Second nearest is Graz Airport, Austria (60 km), a 45-minute drive north of Maribor. It offers regular and frequent flights to several big connection airports (Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna) as well as other airports. You can reach Maribor from Graz Airport with several means (a shuttle, a train or a taxi):

• The train station (Flughafen Graz-Feldkirchen) is within walking distance of the terminal. Even though the railway line south leads straight to Maribor, it is usually necessary to change at the last station (Spielfeld-Strass) before the border. Exceptions are international trains from Vienna to Ljubljana or Zagreb. Link to train timetable.
• It is also possible to take a taxi to Maribor.

Ljubljana Airport (130 km) is located north of Ljubljana. Regular transfer services (about 30 minutes’ drive) and hourly bus transfers (45 min drive) to the Ljubljana train and coach station are available (please check bus timetables and shuttle service options at http://www.lju-airport.si/en/passengers-and-visitors/getting-here/ ). The train and coach station are situated in the centre of Ljubljana. The cheapest way to get from Ljubljana to Maribor is by train. Shuttles: information below.

Zagreb Airport (130 km) is a 1½ hour drive from Maribor. Transfer by bus from Zagreb Airport to the main coach station in Zagreb requires an 35-40 minutes (http://www.plesoprijevoz.hr/en/page/timetable ). Train journey from Zagreb Station to Maribor takes between 2½–3 hours. Shuttles: information below.

Vienna International Airport (260 km) is 2½ hours’ drive from Maribor. Train journey from Vienna to Maribor takes between 3½–4 hours. Shuttles: information below.

BY TRAIN

You can travel to Maribor with different international trains. There are direct connections available with Zagreb, Graz, and Vienna. On some lines it is necessary to change trains. Nearby Pragersko, which has good train services with Maribor, also enables fast train connections with Budapest (H) and Venice(I).

BY BUS

Maribor is connected to cities in Europe by regular international bus lines. Bus service providers:

Maribor has also good bus services with other Slovenian towns. However, it is recommended to travel by train between most Slovenian places and cities, because the railway connections are more frequent and more often than not also cheaper.

BY CAR (toll motorways)

From Austria: A9 (from Graz) in the direction of Maribor. Exit 2-Maribor-sever toward Maribor-sever center/Dravograd/Pesnica pri Mb. At Roundabout Pesnica, take the 1st exit onto H2 heading to Maribor-sever/Dravograd. Continue onto Hitra cesta/Route 430.

From Hungary: A5 (from Budapest) in the direction of Maribor. At Roundabout Pesnica, take the 3rd exit onto H2 heading to Maribor-sever/Dravograd. Continue onto Hitra cesta/Route 430.

Combined for Austria and Hungary: Continue driving towards Maribor on Route 430 (for about 4 km); take the first exit Maribor center / Dravograd. Drive left at the 2nd traffic light (immediately after going under a railway bridge). Drive to the roundabout and take the first exit to the right into the street Kneza Koclja. Cross the next traffic light and take the first left towards Drava river into Ulica talcev. The street will make a sharp turn there and is renamed into Loška ulica – there you will already see a hotel that is located right next to the bridge. Turn right into the hotel garage - Hotel City Maribor.

From Italy / Croatia / Ljubljana: A1 in the direction of Maribor. Exit 7 Slivnica, towards 'Graz/Maribor'.

Continue straight onto 'Slivnica pri Mariboru' and 'Spodnje Hoče' - 'Bohova' - 'Tržaška cesta' for about 5 km. Keep right, take the exit toward Dravograd/Ruše/Ptuj/Center. Continue straight (‘Tržaška cesta’ and ‘Titova cesta’). If you continue straight (2^nd exit) at this roundabout, you will cross the bridge and at next roundabout take first exit, then turn right, and again right at the traffic light. Take the first left towards Drava river into Ulica talcev. The street will make a sharp turn there and is renamed into Loška ulica – there you will already see a hotel that is located right next to the bridge. Turn right into the hotel garage - Hotel City Maribor.

All vehicles must have a valid vignette for usage of Slovenian motorways and expressways (weekly vignette 15,00 EUR). PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN MARIBOR

Venue of the SEEmeet 2023 and most of the suggested hotels are within walking distance from each other as well as from Maribor train and bus stations.

A free mini electric vehicle is also available to citizens and visitors for easier access to the shops, restaurants, different institutions and sights inside the pedestrian area of the city centre.
